 | | Because we know America can’t out-compete the world tomorrow if our children are being out-educated today, we’re making the largest investment in
education in our nation’s history. |
-President Obama, ARRA Signing, 2/17/09 |

Fund Facts
The ARRA (American Recovery and Reinvestment Act) provides $787B of federal funds to stimulate the economy; $115B is allocated to Education which is more than double previous federal funding. |
Educational reform within the ARRA targets four areas: |
1) College- and career-ready standards |
2) Pre-K to higher education data systems |
3) Teacher effectiveness |
4) Support for lowest-performing schools |
The SFSF (State Fiscal Stabilization Fund) alone provides $53.6B to advance education reform. |
$12.2B is available through IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Act). |
Title I provides $13B in funds to support its efforts to improve the academic achievement of the disadvantaged. |
| |
| |
| SFSF funds can be spent on general support, school modernization,
public safety, other government services, elementary/secondary/early childhood education, children with special needs, adult education, family literacy, career and technical
education. |
| Title I funds can be spent on professional development,
math/science/reading materials, preK program expansion and online learning improvements. |
| IDEA funds can be spent on staff, technology, preschool needs,
positive behavioral support, professional development, data collection and instructional improvements. |
| Funds cannot be spent on maintenance costs, athletic facilities, purchase or upgrade
of vehicles, improvement of facilities without direct educational purpose or financial assistance for students to attend private schools. |
| Since funds are generally a one-time allocation, it is recommended that schools and
programs avoid spending funds on programs that would require continual investment. |
