The newer ones have more flimsy ribbon and not as sturdy construction. The are still fun to play w/and use for movement activities, I just wish they were the OLDER, more sturdy ones. In addition, the price is now HIGHER for the NEWER, less sturdy ones. I'd rather pay more for the OLDER, sturdy ones. The "streaming" action promotes spinning, swooping, and gives a nice visual on large upper body movements, such as making circles or zig-zags. They are a great alternative to scarves just for the variety over the course of a semester. The only issue I've had is that I have lots of "mouthers" in my classes, and so I sometimes need to wash them. Handwashing is fine, but don't put a whole load in the washing machine, even in a garment bag. The resulting tangle is a nightmare. Also, over time, the edges fray (particularly after untangling them from a journey in the washing machine). But for the price, it's a great product.
