Learning Numbers with Building Blocks
An Activity for Preschoolers:
A STEM activity that supports Math.

Before You Begin:
Print out the FREE number and pattern cards here. Cut each card out. Place a pile of building blocks on a table and place the cards around it.

Activity Goals:
To help children with pattern recognition, counting, and numeration.

Using cardstock and crayons, have the children create their own pattern cards for the blocks.

Have the children separate the blocks into groups of the same color.
Show the children the cards and explain that there are the same colors on the cards as on the blocks.
Using the cards, have the children take turns matching the appropriate block color to match a card or cards.
Using the cards, have the children take turns counting out the appropriate number of blocks to match a card or cards.
Challenge the children to match the patterns on each card with the corresponding number and color of block(s).
Check their work and discuss any corrections if necessary.
