Frequently Asked Questions About Classroom Acrylic Paint and Specialty Paint

What makes specialty paint different from regular classroom paint?

Specialty paints include formulas designed for unique effects and surfaces. You can explore options including metallic, fluorescent, glitter, and confetti finishes, plus BioColor and gel paint formulas.

How do I choose the right container size for my classroom needs?

Container size depends on how often you paint and how many students you serve. Individual 4 oz bottles work well for small groups or occasional projects, while 16 oz bottles suit regular classroom use.

Are these paints safe and non-toxic for young children?

Yes, our specialty paints are formulated with classroom safety in mind. Colorations leads with paraben-free options across BioColor, gel paint, and glitter formulas, and many products are AP certified non-toxic.

What is BioColor paint and when should I use it?

BioColor is a creamy, highly versatile formula that spreads and adheres easily to a wide range of surfaces including paper, cardboard, wood, fabric, and plastic. It dries quickly with vibrant, opaque coverage and works beautifully with brushes, sponges, and stamping tools.

Can I find washable specialty paints for easy cleanup?

Yes, many specialty paints are washable from skin and most children's clothing with soap and water. Explore options including washable glitter paints and washable gel formulas from Colorations and Crayola.

What pack types are available for specialty paints?

You can choose between individual bottles for single-color restocking and multi-color sets for complete classroom kits. Sets range from 6-pack rainbow assortments to 16-pack collections with metallic, fluorescent, and skin-tone palettes. Multi-color sets offer great value and ensure you have a full spectrum ready for any project or theme.

How do I choose between gel paint and acrylic paint?

Gel paints are thick, creamy, and dry to a semi-gloss finish, making them ideal for paper, cardboard, and craft surfaces where you want bold, raised texture. Acrylic paints are thinner, dry quickly with a matte finish, and work on canvas, wood, glass, and plastic.

Are there skin-tone paints available for inclusive art projects?

Yes, Colorations offers Colors Like Me washable tempera paint sets with a range of skin tones designed to reflect the beautiful diversity of your classroom. These paraben-free, washable paints help children see themselves in their art and support identity exploration, self-portraits, and culturally responsive teaching across toddler through elementary grades.
