intro:
Halloween creatures aren't so scary when they're this cute and fuzzy! This activity lets children really experiment with creating their own design and putting it all together to create a unique, personal decoration.

set up ideas:
Have several colors of felt available for the children. They may wish to mix and match the front and back sides of their creatures for a unique design.

let's get started

To get started making these fuzzy felt creatures, you'll need to gather felt sheets in various colors, a threading needle, yarn, glue, craft fluffs, a mix of buttons and ribbon. You may also wish to break out additional collage materials.

step 1
Choose the shape you would like to make. Having some stencils or examples on hand may help to narrow down the choice.
step 2
Select an appropriate felt, stitching and buttons to create your creature.
step 3
Trace and cut the desired shape from two sheets of felt. To one piece of felt, add buttons and threading to create interesting features as desired.
step 4
Use a lacing needle and thread to stitch the two pieces together. Before closing up the final stitch, insert craft flufs for stuffing.

Conversation
This activity gives children an opportunity to experiment with their own creepy, silly and kooky shapes, if they wish. Reinforce their decision-making and discuss the choice of felt, stitching, buttons and other accessories used.
