an activity for preschoolers:
Create craft stick rafts and then test them. Will yours sink or float?

before you begin:
Provide enough craft sticks and glue for each child to complete a raft. You'll also want to have a water table and counters available for the second part of the activity.

activity goals:
To practice counting and one-to-one correspondence while making observations about sinking, floating and weight.

furthermore:
You may turn this activity into a game by challenging students to create the raft that holds the most counters.

let's get started

step 1
Have each child create a raft using craft sticks and glue.
step 2
Allow the rafts to dry overnight.
step 3
Have the children take their rafts to the water table and float them in the water.
step 4
Have children place counters on their raft and count how many can be placed before it tips or sinks.
