This specimen kit is perfect. It has a sliding cover on it so I don't have to worry about the smaller kids getting some of the items out. It has some very unique things in it. It is nice that you can change the items out to switch it up.

The wooden specimen kit is a great addition to our discovery center. The children liked looking at the items and smelling them. I like that the box comes with the clear cover. The wood of the dividers was a little bit splintery in places, so it needed a little sanding. I wish the box was available for purchase empty, because I have not been able to find a box with dividers and a clear lid anywhere else and would like to fill it with other items. The teacher's guide was informational, but poor print quality, so it wasn't easy to read.

This is a beautiful specimen kit. Some of the items are ordinary enough (cinnamon, shells), but it all depends on where you live. The best part is still having the box and refilling it with new items every now & again!
