Other reviews said these were real chalkboards, which motivated me to purchase them. When they arrived I enthusiastically opened them up to write on them, but nothing happened. The chalk would not write on the chalkboard. They are painted pieces of particle board. I was disappointed and returned them.

I searched the web for days to find a chalkboard that I could trust would work with any kind of real chalk. I was concerned by some reviews that said you couldn't write on the boards. But when mine arrived, they were perfect, no priming required. I packed up 10 of these for my daughters friends, along with chalk and little sponges. I really wanted my VBS kids to have a chalk board to decorate and have as a take home craft on which to draw or write "inspirational" messages. I found locally one store with more well-made chalk boards (wood framed, heavier weight) but they cost a fortune and were terribly out of budget. I needed 36! These were so affordable that I also bought a big box of chalk to share and cut up big sponges to pass out as erasers. I got 4 packs of 10 boards. While roughly 5 separate chalk boards had slightly damaged edges, these were perfect for the craft I had planned. The children decorated around the outer edges with foam stick-ons, pom poms, glued on spangles, etc. The kids LOVED these and started drawing and writing on them as soon as we handed out the chalk.
