Color Sort and Count
An Activity for Preschoolers:
A STEM activity that promotes counting and color classification.

Before You Begin:
Place a pile of different styles of counters in center of the table. Print out free number and pattern cards here.

Activity Goals:
To recognize colors.
To help children practice counting.

For older children who have emergent reading skills, you may want to use the printed cards for the name of each color.

Have children sort counters by colors and place them in the correct circle to match the color.
For an extended exercise, have children count the number of pieces in each color.
Children can sort and count by type of counter; bear, fruit, etc.
Use the pattern cards to encourage the children to recognize repeating patterns.
