What Makes a Sound?
An Activity for Preschoolers:
A STEM activity that helps children understand the sense of hearing.

Before You Begin:
Place a variety of items on a tray and number the items with masking tape and a marker. On the chart tablet, make a numerical list of the items. On the top of the chart label 2 columns “sound” and “no sound.”

Activity Goals:
To help children distinguish different sounds.

You may also want to have the children determine which sounds are louder and which are softer.

Taking turns, have children shake and play with the items.
Ask them to determine which items make a sound and which do not.
Record their findings on the chart.
