Spatial Awareness
An Activity for Preschoolers:
Use children's own artworks to help them learn spatial terms!

Before You Begin:
For this simple, spatial activity, you'll need crayons and a piece of art paper for each child.

Activity Goals:
To describe spatial relationships using spatial words.

This quick STEM activity familiarizes children with the terms for spatial relationships used in math and science.

Instruct children to draw a picture using crayons and art paper. Encourage them to use the whole page.
When the picture is complete, fold the paper into thirds.
Have the children identify which parts of their pictures are on top, which parts are in the middle and which parts are on the bottom.
Use position words such as top, middle, bottom, on top of, over, under and others during the activity.
